TTT AGM & 7th Birthday

TTT celebrated its 7th birthday at the 2015 AGM on Monday. After a Tooting Quiz, including ICU nurses from St George's who provided a tie-breaker, we heard a review of the last year and ideas for future vision and direction. New co-chairs were elected for the next two years, congratulations to Richard & Jenny, and also to Martin as the new Secretary.

The one-minute updates on the myriad TTT and related projects showed us how much is going on, from Field Days to Restart, Garden events to Foodival, while we also aim to tackle big issues like pollution, heatwaves, renewable energy and carbon emissions.  Retiring co-chairs, David & Belinda, were thanked before a general retirement to Dosa 'n Chutney for some tasty South Indian food.  Thanks to all who contributed to another uplifting and interesting evening, to Lucy for another creative cake and to Graveney & Meadow for hosting.

FLCZ at Furzedown Fun Day

Nice picture of the Furzedown Low Carbon Zone stall at the Furzedown Festival on Saturday.
FLCZ Chair Giles Read (who took the photo, thanks Giles) said: "what a brilliant event The Furzedown Festival was.  The interest in the FLCZ stall exceeded all expectations, from people interested in investing to those wanting information on solar panels or just enjoying cycling for a song!"

Competition Cakes
On that score it really is interesting to "cycle for a song" to see how much pedal power it requires, in my case 5 minutes cycling to put a "Man On The Moon" courtesy of REM.  However it's actually much harder to power the 100W light bulb.  Some of the children trying out the bike were fascinated at the connection between their effort and the generation of electricity. Thanks again to Eleanor for the loan of her cycle power machine which has been a great addition over the last two weekends.

TTT turns 5

Keen community gardener and TTT "newbie", Sel, provides her take on the AGM and 5th birthday party, a couple of weeks ago.
Transition Town Tooting turned five on Monday April 29th and was celebrated in the Graveney and Meadow pub by various activists, organisers and volunteers. The seeds of this flourishing movement were planted in 2008 at Lucy's dinner table and today it has not only branched out into several projects, but has a respectable rapport with the Council, local businesses, schools and of course the people who live in the community who have benefited from what we have hosted.

I am one of the newer volunteers and this was my first AGM and I have to say was a friendly affair and for anybody who is interested in getting involved in Transition Town Tooting, it was accessible and welcoming. I volunteer with the community garden and like some of the other volunteers, wanted to do so to meet other people, learn about how to grow food and to reclaim a connection with nature, which I felt I had lost since coming from the countryside to London. I have really enjoyed getting "green fingered" and would recommend coming along to anybody, whatever your age and experience. Or if gardening isn't for you, there were other projects showcased on the night covering a wide array of green ideas.

TTT AGM & 5th Birthday Party

Just in case this makes no sense ... ahem ... TTT has its AGM and 5th birthday party on Monday evening at Graveney & Meadow. It will be a fun event including a quiz with prizes, a brief report on all of TTT's current projects, a short vote, a lot of cake and time to chat. Whether you are new to all this or a gnarled veteran, this should be a fun evening and we hope to see you there! Bring an unsuspecting friend maybe?  It could be the start of something new and exciting!
